Portugirlies in Portugal

You never realise just how much a holiday is required until your abroad in the sun away from your everyday life; it's as if a sudden weight is lifted from your shoulders. It seems that holidays aren't so easy for me, if it's not one problem it's another. Two years ago I went to Egypt and while I was out there I got this horrendous reaction to something or other which caused my face to balloon in size and my eyes were basically non existent; to top it off I was covered in mosquito bites. I had no idea what caused this reaction and went to the Pharmacy near to the hotel; the man there prescribed me some cream to rub on my face and another cream to apply 30 minutes after; it turned out to be nappy rash cream! As I'd never experienced something like this before I put it down to a bad reaction to a mosquito bite and left it there. A few months later I then went to Spain and everything about it was different, different sun cream, no mosquito bites, took antihistamines but to my dismay it happened again. I've since been on holiday and been fine but this holiday it came back and it was back with vengeance. I decided to stay inside when it first flared up with an ice pack on my head and taking a regular dose of ibrupofen but it only got worse so I thought I've paid money for this, I may as well get myself a tan.

After doing a bit of research it looks to be all the symptoms of a condition called photo-dermatitis which is very unfortunate but at least I can start working on a cure for it; maybe I'll do a separate post all about it.

So if you haven't guessed by the title I went to Portugal this year with the girls in my family, there was 7 of us in total and it's just lovely to have some girl time, especially since moving out of my mum and dad's it's nice to spend some quality time with my mum. We went to Praia Da Luz and I really thought the place was going to be much larger than it was but I'm not saying that's a bad thing. It was rather quiet during the day but all the restaurants were busy on an evening, we had to book for most nights but we were a large group after all. We stayed in a gorgeous resort with and a balcony that over looked the pool and the sea was visible in the distance; there wasn't a single cloud in the sky for the whole time we were there either, it was just incredible. If you've been to Spain and enjoyed it, you'll love Portugal!

For the whole week that we were there we didn't have a single bad meal! As we were self catering we would tend to go to the supermarket and buy some meats, olives and bread for lunch and then go out for a meal in the evening. If you are planning/going to Portugal in the Praia Da Luz area then I highly recommend the following restaurants:

  • Chicca's
  • Restaurant Yolo
  • Fortaleza de Luz Restaurant (Incredible Views from this one)
  • Atlantico
  • Endless Summer Beach Bar (Perfect for drinks during the day)

There was many more that we wanted to try but just didn't have the time! It wasn't just that the meals were OK, they were incredible.

The only bad thing I could really say about it is how windy it got on a night, I'm not sure if it was the time of year that we were there or if it's always like that but take a cardy with you otherwise you'll be cold!

Are you going on any holiday's this year?
